Tips to Manage Food Intake during the Holiday Season

Health Tips Three Aspens

The holiday season is a time for joy, reuniting with family and exchanging gifts. It is also a time with lots of culinary temptations: delicious home made dishes, followed by lots and lots of candy and cakes. Many people end the holiday season with a few extra pounds of weight and spend months sweating in the gym to get rid of them.

To avoid this, you need to be smart about eating during the holiday season. Here are a few helpful tips:

  1. Eat Before Visiting Family and Friends

Have a light meal before you go to your best friend’s house or to a family reunion. On an empty stomach, you will be tempted to accept a double serving of everything on the table. Choose legumes and light meat (chicken or turkey) and fish, which are tasty, nutritious and low on calories.

  1. Do Not Socialize around Food

Visits should not be focused on sitting at the table and eating. Invite your guests in the living room, offer coffee, drinks and a few light snacks. As for the rest of the time, catch up with each other’s news, and take out photo albums to remember good days and board games for entertainment.

  1. Don’t Start Meals with Strong Alcoholic Drinks

Many hosts offer “a stiff one” to open your appetite. While some people may need it, most of us do not require a special stimulant to enjoy a good meal. Starting lunch or dinner with strong liquors will cause you to eat more than you usually do. Opt for sparkling water or natural fruit juice instead.  To help with imbalances take a glance at Three Aspens of Denver.
